It is no surprise that South Sudan Basketball team turned heads at the recent FIBA World Cup qualifiers window held in Tunisia, Africa.

What started out as the usual norm has sparked nationwide interest and involvement in basketball on all fronts.

Before  the arrival of Luol Deng(current South Sudan Basketball President), the country’s hoop ecosystem had a different pulse compared to what is being experienced now.

Make no mistakes, there alot of seasoned NBA worthy athletes from South Sudan ready to take on the world, and the East African country is never in short supply.

The male national team stunned their counterparts from other nations at the just concluded FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

Stellar performances were put up in back to back games, and that indeed was a huge statement.

This statement attracted the eyes of corporate bodies domiciled in south sudan.

Mobile giants MTN, had a shot…Sixty Five Million South Sudanese Pounds was donated to the South Sudanese Mens Basketball team.

MTN Group Senior Vice chair Ebenezer Asante was on ground to hand over the cheque to SSBF President(as seen above).

This is coming off the initial made last month by the group to sponsor the nation’s mens basketball team.

The telecommunications giants also made available for mtn users a welcome bundle to stream the national team’s arrival at the airport.

There was also a home coming frenzy that featured bill boards being put up in honour of the mens team as well as parties being hosted in different parts of the country, especially in JUBA.

The airport was filled up as fans waited till night time for the victorious “Bright Stars”.

In the wake of these, Financial Institution-Stanbic Bank in collaboration with NBA Africa signed a partnership deal with the Luol Deng foundation to sponsor the  Junior NBA league program in South Sudan.

In other news, Bol Bol son of late Sudanese basketball star Manute Bol is set to join the Sudanese Men Basketball team roaster in the next round of qualifiers.

The Orlando Magic centre recently made it known to the federation in a recent statement.

With the current state of the team, Bol would be an added advantage on the roaster. Lets see how that plays out.
