Sam Oguche, the founder of Samuel Oguche Basketball Foundation is not resting on his oars in his quest for human capacity building.

The former basketball player has taken it upon himself as a “MUST-DO” at every point in time all year round to organize basketball tournament for youths.

With a consistency rate spanning over eight years and running, Sam Oguche has proven beyond reasonable doubt his stance on growing and developing the game of basketball at the local stage.

The recently concluded Samuel Oguche Bullet Energy Drink Basketball Tournament held in Lagos further attest to that fact.

The competition which was a five-day event featured teams around Lagos and environs.

A total of thirteen basketball teams comprising of Eight male teams and five female teams slugging it out for bragging rights.

  • Comets
  • Grizzly Bear
  • Rapid Counter
  • Flames
  • Warlord
  • Police Baton

Female Teams

  • MFM
  • IGP Queens
  • Amazon
  • War Queens
  • First Bank

The events had other side attractions for the crowd delight. Basketball stake holders where attendance, as well as celebrities.

The fans/crowd where excited as they where treated to sublime displays from some of the skillful players.

Topmost on the list was eventual Tournament MVP- Michael Daramola.

“Victory favours the brave” as Senior Man Phillip Braide puts it in reference to Michael who was outstanding all through the tournament on both ends of the floor.

Recall he was also MVP of the recently concluded “Mark d Ball Tournament”, Igbó as he is fondly called showed grit and grind from jump ball till final whistle.

He was no star of his own, as his ever reliable teammates namely, Kayinsola Joseph, Railway Edward, Tolani all played pivotal roles in securing the trophy for Grizzly Bears.

43-35 it was in favour of Grizzly bears against Ebun Comets.

In the female rumble in the bronx, it was field day cruise for First bank and MFM as they both cruised to the finals of the competition.

It wasn’t an easy one for eventual winners-First Bank as they had to match the fire power of MFM ladies.

MFM top player and double digit scorer Gbihi Cynthia emerged the tournament MVP despite playing for the loosing side.

ReboundNG specially appreciate Sam Oguche for this good gesture towards keeping the youths of the street and also giving them a reason to shoot hoops.

We expect more in the coming months/years.

Whoever said there was anything like disability?

There was an exhibition game by Nigerian wheelchair basketball players and it was indeed a sight to behold.
