West African sports giants Senegal are no strangers to producing some of the continent’s top basketball prospects in the NBA draft in recent times MOUHAMED GUEYE takes the spotlight this time.

After being drafted 39th in the second round by Charlotte Hornets and later traded to Atlanta Hawks in the recent draft, Mouhamed Gueye is already living the dream.

Although it is being rumored that he might be surplus ATL Hawks, due to their already choked frontcourt roster.

A move to the G-League might be expected, but the options are open if he performs in the upcoming summer league.

Here are some facts about Mouhamed Gueye you didn’t know about courtesy of  REBOUNDNG

  • He bears the same name as another player of Senegalese descent who went undrafted in 2022 and plays in the  NBA G-League. Mouhamadou Gueye plays for Texas Legends. The spelling makes the difference and cause the current Mouhamed Gueye was drafted.
  • He initially started out playing soccer but was encouraged by his mother to make the switch to basketball.
  • Before playing for Prolific prep school, Gueye had never played organized basketball.
  • He moved to the United States from Senegal at age 16.
  • He also played for AAU team Vegas Elite.
  • As a high schooler, he was ranked number 34 in the country according to 247 Sports.
  • He received college offers from eights universities across the country which include UCLA, Kansas and Stanford, later committing to Washington State University.
  • Gueye equals Klay Thompson’s record for most starts by a freshman in college(33 starts).

 

  • He declared for the 2022 draft but later withdrew.
  • As a feat for his rebounding prowess, he led WSU in rebounding eleven time during the 2021/2022 season and also led the team in scoring twice.

Gueye’s remarkable quality lies in his smooth athleticism and exceptional movement abilities.
